There are a number of threats to the Great Lakes' health including sewage overflow, illegal dumping, stormwater runoff, overuse, diversion, and invasive species. All of these are serious, but the one that I wanted to know more about is invasive species. Here's what I found out:

We've previously talked about the clear economic benefits of Great Lakes restoration. The Brookings Institution's Healthy Waters, Healthy Economy report demonstrates that implementing the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy would, with an investment of $26 billion, create between $80 and $100 billion worth of benefits.

Great Lakes Day in Washington is when folks from all over the region go to DC and lobby their representatives to support Great Lakes Restoration efforts. We thought we'd use the event this year to spread the word online about Great Lakes Restoration and how people in the region can help out...
