Jeff Vines, the winner of our Transit Photo Contest has chosen to feature ReVitalize St. Louis as one of his favorite local organizations. ReVitalize St. Louis is made up of citizens committed to preserving St. Louis’ architectural history while structuring initiatives for new, planned development. Their vision is to, “create positive change in the urban St. Louis community with an eye towards preserving and rejuvenating the city’s physical landscape and inspiring progressive civic action.”
ReVitalize St. Louis connects advocates through a Rehabber’s Club, a grassroots network that operates mainly through a Yahoo Groups listserv that has grown to over 2,000 members. The Rehabber’s Club holds meetings each month and usually visits a neighborhood to help firsthand with the revitalization of the communities there.
Every year, ReVitalize St. Louis hosts their annual BIG TOUR, which is a free event that invites anyone interested in buying a St. Louis home to tour the city’s unique urban neighborhoods. Interested potential homebuyers can talk to realtors, review homes, and talk to current residents at the Homebuyer’s Expo. After the kickoff, everyone receives a Guide Book of available properties so they can go on their own tour of St. Louis’ neighborhoods!
Thanks, Jeff, for letting us know about ReVitalize St. Louis. We’ll keep you all posted on events they’re holding so you can get involved, too! Don’t forget this week’s photo contest either, artists at work. Submissions are due in one week, so send in those photos!
Every other Tuesday, GLUE announces a photo contest based around a simple theme. Photo entries should be of scenes in a GLUE city, and you’re free to interpret the theme broadly. Each contest will be open for two weeks, and the winner will get to choose a local business or non-profit that GLUE will feature in a short write-up the following week. It’s a great way to win some attention to your favorite local organization!
