Thursday Rust Wire News Round-up
June 4th, 2009 by Sarah Szurpicki View ProfileOur weekly update from the Rust Wire bloggers:
Take a look at these haunting and beautiful photos from Megan Reed of an abandoned home in Youngstown’s Wick Park neighborhood. Megan’s photos are part of Rust Wire’s attempts to document the realities of life in Rust Belt cities, good and bad. We’re always looking for more contributions.
This week we also had a very thoughtful editorial by Angie on the tax bias against cities. Angie cites examples from several Rust Belt states when making her case, highlighted by information from the Brookings Institution’s Restoring Prosperity: The State Role in Revitalizing America’s Older Industrial Cities.
The coolest feature this past week was a video on the evils of sprawl–and what to do about it. It won this year’s Congress for the New Urbanism’s short film contest. A big thanks to a fellow GLUEster for pointing this video out to us!
