Community Organizers Respond, and We’re Looking for More of You…
September 6th, 2008 by Abby Wilson View ProfileUnless you found this website under the rock where you live, you’ve heard about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s speech earlier this week at the GOP convention, during which she took the now infamous cheap shot: “I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities…”
Community organizers have built movements on both sides of the aisle, although this particular speech writer had just one target. And no, it wasn’t Daughters of the American Revolution. Fortunately for water, people who like equality and people who live in houses - to name just a few beneficiaries of the profession - organizers are responding.
GLUE strongly supports the work of these particular respondents and so many others, and urges you to get involved with Clean Water Action, Policy Link, and the National Housing Institute if you like water, equality and/or houses.
In honor of community organizing and its impact on GLUE cities, we will profile one community organizer a week going forward. Do you know people in the region whose organizing efforts we should highlight? Email abby@gluespace.org.
